The Universe Just Reminded Me of This Lesson

I was packing my files yesterday and a piece of A4 paper dropped out. Written vertically down the middle of the paper were these 5 Chinese characters: “万事开头难”. Literal translation “In all matters, the starting is always difficult”.

I had written that phrase to encourage my then P1 kid that things are always tough at the “starting line” but the further we get away from it, the better we’ll be, one way or another. Someone out there must be reminding me to “revise” this lesson 🌠

Even before we start something, we fret over “what if’s” and that usually stymies further action. So the nifty slogan “Just Do It” is really the way to start on that change. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture or an announcement. A silent promise to yourself or making a list and ticking off the item once you’ve done it are sufficient to count as “you’ve started”. While starting is tough, starting small need not.
