My Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF) Journey

After more than 12 years dabbling in (group) facilitation and being more intentional about honing my skills only in the last 6 years, I decided to take the leap to be certified.

I felt ready and also a desire to be benchmarked against a global and widely accepted facilitation standard.

So in Mar 2025, I took the first step towards the Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF) assessment by the International Association of Facilitators (IAF)

It required me to document and submit 7 actual projects I facilitated or co-facilitated by me, over the past 3 years. These constituted Phase 1 of the assessment. Once they were accepted, i was through to Phase 2.

Phase 2 put me through the paces of contracting with a fictitious client a month prior to the intended intervention. This fictitious client also double-up as my assessor.

Today, 2 Sep 2025 in Bali, Indonesia, is the final step of Phase 2 which required me to demonstrate my (IAF) facilitator competencies through a 30 minute demonstration, just a portion of the full intervention that I had designed for the client and which the client had approved.

The day has finally ended and all assessments completed. Today marks a professional fulfillment for me as I finally attained CPF, together with 5 other candidates from Singapore, China, India and Australia.

It has been a wonderful experience learning different facilitation methods, putting them to good use through many paid, low bono and pro bono projects. I am grateful for the support of friends from International Association of Facilitators (IAF) – Singapore throughout my facilitation journey. Thank you everyone.
